Before:
Notice the VERY bright yellow wall, the hand painted flowers around the windows, and the handmade curtains. So country, so crafty, so old lady-ish, so not us.
After:
Ahhhh, this is much better. Paint: Creek Bend by Behr. Lighting: Home Depot. Baseboards: Installed by the Burke's. Blinds: Expo Design Center. Desk: Scandinavian Designs. Computer Monitor: NewEgg.com
Things we learned along the way....
- Prepping to paint is more work than actually painting
- Paint can be darker than it appears
- Don't trust your stud finder
- Get a wire fish - no, you can't just feed the wire through the wall and hope it magically appears where you want it to
- Walls are not flat and straight
- Cutting a 140 degree angle with a saw that only goes to 45 degrees
- Baseboards are not as difficult to install as we thought
- Desks are expensive
- No, you really don't need a 42' monitor - 37' is big enough.
- Satisfaction of finishing our first major home improvement project. (OK, technically the garage was the first, but it's just a garage and we only patched and primered it)
NOTE TO READERS: Know anyone that would like to own a slightly used oak desk?
