Amador County Wine Tasting

This past weekend, we went to Sutter Creek to visit with my mom. She just finished remodeling the downstairs area of her house and we had to go see it all finished! Originally, we were visiting so that we can help her to go through the hundreds of boxes she has in storage.....create a garage sale pile, go through some keepsakes from my childhood, declutter. Yeah. We didn't do any of that. It was such a beautiful day that we decided to go wine tasting instead!

In all the years that mom's been back in the Creek, I've never gone wine tasting there. My mom had supplied Karmere's almond and raspberry champagnes for my bridal shower, so we HAD to start there! It had a beautiful view, an old car and our favorite......a giant chicken!

Next up, was Chateau Routon. It's a teeny little place on a horse ranch with panoramic views of the foothills owned by the nicest little old couple. Their Lodi and Amador Zins were our favorite.

Next, my mom took us to a place that she claimed had the BEST port brownies - Latcham Vineyards and Granite Springs. And yeah, those brownies were awesome!Outside, they had a cute little courtyard that overlooked the vineyard. Made me want to plant some grapevines in my backyard.

The last place we tasted was by far the best winery of the day - Dillian. This was a winery that my mom had been wanting to try, so we turned in to check it out. Turns out, we weren't the only ones....the place was packed! But it was well worth the wait.....every wine we tried was good. It was too hard to pick one. Eventually, we settled on a Primativo and the owner was there to sign every bottle!

As we were heading back, we couldn't pass by the Amador Flower Farm without stopping in and checking things out. It's fall, so they were bound to have pumpkins and beautiful fall blooms.  I've heard my mom rave about this place, so I knew it had to be good! And they did not disappoint. Not only did they have the nursery area, but they had a frog pond and a little Display Garden. It was very cute.

The next day, we just played tourist and walked around downtown Sutter Creek. Man, did that bring back some memories. Jr high school, high school, learning to drive, my friends, etc. It was really great to reminisce about that part of my life. I have many fond memories there.....but it seems like so long ago, yet not too much has changed in that little town.

Overall, it was a great weekend. I can't wait til the next visit!

WOW. We never go wine tasting in the county, we only cuss at all of the tourists on the road since we are locals. But there's some really pretty wineries you went to. Karamere, once upon a time, used to be the old Jamison Ranch, (one of the old Shenandoah Valley families.) Haven't been there since they turned it into a winery tho. They had a nice pond back where these new owners built "the Alamo" as we all refer to the other building on the property. Dillian's Winery is actually owned by Jake and Alice's parents (you remember Jake and Alice right?) -- any way, it's their Mom and step-dad. So there you go. Trivia. My work here is done.
