VTD 2010

This year, we wanted to go do something fun for Valentine's Day. I've been wanting to go to the Cal Academy of Sciences for a while now, so I thought, let's make a day out of it!

Well, we got a late start and apparently we weren't the only ones that had this idea. After sitting in bumper to bumper traffic, we were circling the park trying to find parking. 2 1/2 hrs of being in the car, we were getting restless and decided SCREW THIS and headed for the beach.

OMG was it beautiful!!

There were lots of people taking a leisurely stroll up and down the beach, dogs chasing the waves and kids throwing wet sand at each other. One thing we noticed was all the foam on the beach! I've never seen that much foam...but the waves were pretty strong, so that's probably why.

We had reached the end of the beach and saw that there were people walking up the hill to an old building. We put our shoes back on and decided to head up the hill and see the view.

At the top of the hill was a restaurant called the Cliff House. We went inside to check it out. They had old pictures of a bath house and a view of the ocean that was just spectacular! We decided to stay for a bit and had a beer and a martini overlooking the sea.

We step outside and notice some ruins. There were a ton of people down there, so we wanted to check it out. Turns out, this is the ruins of the Sutro Baths....the same photos we saw in the restaurant. We were trying to visualize what it looked like back in the day, but it was soooo huge that I just couldn't picture it. What an awesome place it must have been.

We saw another trail through the trees and were hoping that it would lead to a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. And eventually it did. And what a view it was. Across the way, there were a couple of lighthouses and you could hear the fog horns blowing as the fog was rolling in. We sat there for a while to just take in the view. It's times like these that makes me so greatfull for where we live. It really is a beautiful city.

Knowing that we had walked quite a ways, we decided that it was time to head back to the car. And got to see the beginning of the sunset along the way.....

When we got home, Brian had gotten all the fixings for a lovely lobster dinner. I've never had lobster before....sure I've had lobster bisque and lobster ravioli, but never just plain old lobster tail. So, he made me my very first lobster dinner. It was yummy!
